Most people receive at least some level of healing from reiki,
with the very minimum benefit being relaxation and stress reduction. Most people receive at least some level of
healing from reflexology, with relaxation and stress reduction being,
again, the very minimum benefit. As for
myself, I like to bring reiki through to my clients whenever I do a reflexology
session for someone. Reiki energy
pulls from the universal energy of source; therefore, according to reflexology
theory, infusing your feet during reflexology with the energy of source infuses
your entire body/being with harmony and wholeness.
What’s the Matter?
A very famous scientist (guess who!) once said ‘all matter is made up of
energy’. In the minds of most people
reflexology is a physical manipulation of nerve endings corresponding to the
related parts of the body and also a soft tissue massage that makes your feet
and your whole body feel wonderful. But, according to the author of
‘The Art of Reflexology’, Inge Dougans, "What we perceive as solid
tissue is actually a mass of cells made up of chemical substances which are
collections of atoms. Every atom carries
an electrical charge. . . . Thus, at
the atomic level the body is a mass of energy fields all influencing each
other. ". So, no wonder I have the urge
to treat my poor, tired and world-weary reflexology clients to the good, clear,
energy of reiki!
What About Zone Therapy?
If we back up a bit into history, Zone Therapy, which is the
forgotten and original name (which I much prefer) for reflexology, is a
physical manipulation of the feet, which removes blockages in energy channels
running throughout the entire body.
Sounds like someone got the idea a long time before I did! Zone therapy was practiced in the 1500’s in
German, then later on in the early 1900’s in Europe and the United States.
Recent Clinical Acceptance of Reiki
Reiki can be safely combined with any alternative or conventional
medical treatment and it will improve the results of that treatment. Reiki has
also been shown to reduce negative side effects, shorten healing time, reduce
or eliminate pain, reduce stress, and help create optimism. Reiki can be used by healthy people to support continued well being.
According to Pamela Miles, founding
director of the Institute for the Advancement of Complementary Therapies, Reiki
is now being used at the National Institutes of Health (NIH) for treating both
patients and staff. The NIH is one of
the most prestigious and demanding medical settings in the country. Numerous studies on the use of reiki in clinical
settings are also in progress at the National Institutes of Health through the
National Center for Complimentary and Alternative Medicine (NCCAM).
In Summary
With reiki being more and more accepted by the mainstream as a real
therapy, and my awareness of reflexology being very concerned with energy also,
I will continue to offer this wonderful combination therapy to my
clients to clear them of their weariness, wornness, and worries!
